In the course of human events the vast majority of the declarations of the laws of God can be seen in the decrees of God as they are universally given in nature.  The universal laws of the LORD will be seen for all eternity as they apply to His moral precepts and sovereign will.  Yet in the course of the activity of God in the history of man, we can see the special operation of God’s will in giving precise declaration in contrast to His normal decrees of nature that we see every day in the laws of physics, and biology, and in His divine decrees for quantum mechanics.  These contrasts to His normal will we see for the conduction of His specific will and which we commonly call miracles.  These miracles should not be called miracles if they are part of his normal declarations as they apply to the physical world.  But miracles should be properly understood to be different.  Yet how would we know a miracle if we saw one?  What about the supposed miracles of the witch doctors, the shamans, and of those reported of in religions hostile to the truth of the Gospel of Christ?  In the Scriptures we can see the distinction to be made between the true miracles of God and the deceiving work of Satan:

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 ESV  "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder,  2  and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, 'Let us go after other gods,' which you have not known, 'and let us serve them,'  3  you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Miracles as themselves prove to be a sign for the validity of the Christian message.  While demons can perform wonders of definite supernatural origin in order to lead people astray, true miracles can be done by the LORD of Glory in order to confirm the supernatural work of the Bible.  And throughout the history of the Bible when God needed to make a special point to His people to follow His Word we have the historical remembrance of the miracles that God performed to confirm His message for the good of His people.  And these miracles that have been performed in accordance with the word of the previously revealed truth of God can bring with it the assurance that the speaker is bringing with him the true Word of God in accordance with the truth of Christian Scripture which God has established as true in innumerable ways.
